SUMMARY:COWAP: Beauty and Gender: A Psychoanalytic Perspective: Session 2: Fashion from a Gender Psychoanalytic Perspective
DESCRIPTION:COWAP: Beauty and Gender: A Psychoanalytic Perspective\nSession 2: Fashion from a Gender Psychoanalytic Perspective \nSpeakers: Patricia Gherovici and Margarita Cereijido \nSaturday\, June 27\, 2026\n11:00 am – 12:30 pm EST\nVia Zoom\n1.5 CME/CE per session · 4.5 CME/CE total · Captions in all languages \nThis session explores fashion from a gender psychoanalytic perspective\, approaching it not as decoration\, but as an interface\nbetween the individual’s internal and external worlds. Fashion can help contain\, protect\, and organize psychic experience. It\ncan also help individuals inhabit different subjectivities and moods. \nFrom war bonnets to crown jewelry\, cocktail dresses to loincloths and bikinis\, fashion can be seen as a space where identities\n—such as gender and social status—as well as desires\, are inscribed and communicated. \nAlternating between restrictive styles that reshape and constrain the body and transparent\, revealing aesthetics\, fashion plays\na role in navigating the tensions between self-expression and compliance. The session explores how fashion participates in the\nformation of subjectivity\, and how these dynamics reverberate in our clinical work. \nRegister: HERE\nFull Series Flyer: HERE

SUMMARY:IPA COWAP NA and APSA COSWAG Film Series: Discussions on Gender
DESCRIPTION:COWAP North America Presents:\nDiscussion of the film “Marie Langer: Desire and Revolution”  (2025)\, by Marcelo Haber\nDiscussants: Virginia Unger\, and Marcelo Haber \nModerator: Margarita Cereijido\, PhD \nFriday\, July 10\, 2026\n6:00 pm – 7:30 pm ET\nVia Zoom\nNOTE: a link to view the film will be sent out 2 weeks prior to the event. \nNo CME/CE\nDiscussion of the film: Marie Langer: Desire and Revolution (2025) \nA gender-focused discussion of Marcelo Haber’s film on Marie Langer\, with the participation of Virginia Ungar and the filmmaker. \nDrawing on Langer’s autobiography From Vienna to Managua\, the film interweaves fiction and documentary to trace a life shaped by war\, exile\, and political upheaval. From her training in interwar Europe to her foundational role in Argentine psychoanalysis and later work in Mexico\, Langer reimagined psychoanalysis as deeply embedded in social and political life. \nA committed feminist\, she challenged traditional psychoanalytic views of femininity and\, in 1951\, published Motherhood and Sexuality\, a pioneering work on the psychodynamics of femininity. Her break from institutional psychoanalysis foregrounds tensions between neutrality and ethical responsibility\, while her turn toward community mental health reflects her enduring commitment to bringing psychoanalysis beyond the consulting room and into collective life. \nThe film invites reflection on the analyst’s role in times of crisis\, positioning psychoanalysis as both a clinical practice and a transformative presence within communities. \nRegistration: https://wbcp.memberclicks.net/reg_cowap_ipa_film_7-10-26#!/

SUMMARY:COWAP: Beauty and Gender: A Psychoanalytic Perspective: Session 3: Changing Notions of Beauty: The Importance of Culture and Technology: “Whose Face is it Anyway? "Beauty in the Age of High Technology”
DESCRIPTION:COWAP: Beauty and Gender: A Psychoanalytic Perspective\nSession 3: Changing Notions of Beauty: The Importance of Culture and Technology: “Whose Face is it Anyway? “Beauty\nin the Age of High Technology” \nSpeakers: Rhonda Garelick\, Margarita Cereijido\, and Atsumi Minamisawa: \nSaturday\, July 25\, 2026\n11:00 am – 12:30 pm EST\nVia Zoom\n1.5 CME/CE per session · 4.5 CME/CE total · Captions in all languages \nThis session explores\, from a psychoanalytic perspective\, how throughout history beauty ideals have been shaped by—and in\nturn reinforce—notions of gender. The session highlights the role of the cultural values and technologies available at different\nmoments. \nFrom prehistoric Venus figures emphasizing fertility\, to the classical pursuit of youth\, symmetry\, and perfection\, to\ncontemporary beauty increasingly mediated by digital culture\, beauty ideals have continually shifted\, reflecting the values of\ntheir times. \nToday\, technologies—including digital platforms\, cosmetic procedures\, and appetite-suppressing drugs— promote beauty\nideals that often involve the inhibition of desire. We will explore how these forces may both enable and constrain women’s\nmultiple desires. We will also reflect on the subjective nature of gender. Rhonda Garelick\, our main speaker\, will talk about\n“Whose Face is it Anyway?” Beauty in the Age of High Technology.” \nAtsumi Minamisawa will talk about Mori\, A Unique Visual Communication among Japanese adolescents. \nRegister: HERE\nFull Series Flyer: HERE
